What to expect from the new iPhone this September

Not one, but two phones to choose from, or so the theories go

Most people love gossip - and while Apple chit-chat never stops, the rumours of an Apple event on 10 September seem more serious than most.

It's said to be the launch pad for the iPhone 5S, as well as the iPhone 5C (a budget version).

Obviously Apple hasn’t confirmed the event otherwise it wouldn’t be a rumour, but AllThingsD (the source) has been right on the money in the past, and their predicted date seems likely given Apple's previous phone launches.

But what should we expect? We dived right into the rumour mill, so you don't have to.

Two phones, two markets

Not one, but two phones to choose from, or so the theories go. If following suit with previous ‘S’ models, the iPhone 5S is likely to look, well, pretty much exactly the same. However, Japanese website Mac Otakara suggest it will come in black, silver and gold, bringing a bit of bling to the handset.

Then you have the iPhone 5C, which Mac Otakara believes will feature a polycarbonate and glass fibre casing and where the ‘C’ represents colours, suggesting it will be available in different colours. If these rumours come to light, Apple will be targeting a few more of you. Either those who maybe can’t justify the high-end models, or those of you who just want more excitement than black and white.

Fingerprint scanner, more security

Yes, that’s right, numerous claims suggest the new iPhone 5S will feature a fingerprint reader, which naturally, will give you more security. Unless you have friends in the CIA, you can probably rest assured getting into your device will be hard work. Mac Rumours suggests the the concave home button will be replaced with a convex button, housing the fingerprint sensor below, and coated with sapphire crystal for better protection.

Better camera, sharper pictures

There are a couple of different rumours on the camera, but overall, all point to the 5S having a better one, which makes sense. According to AllThingsD, the iPhone 5S will come with a 12-megapixel rear camera, and will feature Dual-LED flash.

Mac Otakara however, says it will come with the same 8-megapixel camera, but with a wider f/2.0 aperture to capture more light. Either way, all we need to really know is the pictures will be better when we point and click, which they should be whichever site is correct here, if any.

Improved features, greater experience

To most people, the spec sheet is just a mindfield of numbers. Breaking it down, the processor for the iPhone 5S is said to be the A7 by Mac Otakara, which is better than the current iPhone 5. It has been suggested by Mac Rumours, the iPhone 5S will have NFC, which has previously been avoided by Apple and it will come with the iOS 7 software, initially announced at the Apple World Wide Developer Conference in June.

Rumours are rumours. Some might come true, others might be complete fluff. But if you look at the obvious, a budget iPhone would make sense and the iPhone 5S has to be better than the iPhone 5 in some way, shape or form, otherwise, what on earth would be the point?
