Windows 8.1 release date revealed, full build available to all from 17 October

Microsoft has finally revealed the release date of the full consumer build of Windows 8.1. It will be available as a free download to Windows 8 users from 17 October.

In fact, the software giant has given a specific time. It states that the update will be officially available from 12am 18 October in New Zealand.

That means, with NZST being twelve hours ahead of BST on that date, we will get it at midday in the UK. East coast America will get it at 7am, while the west coast will have to get up at 4am to ensure a download from the off.

The operating system patch will be rolled out through the Windows Store. New computers and other devices will come pre-installed with Windows 8.1 from 18 October.
Windows 8.1 offers a whole host of improvements, additional features and the return of the start button.
